Behavior Chart for Color System

We glue these pages onto colored construction paper and hang them in order vertically. Then we put each student's clothes pin, with their class number, on the green or the Yes! page. Every day they have a chance to move up to purple for showing outstanding character and citizenship. Moving clips down to yellow or red for bad behavior is nothing new, but I love the idea of encouraging students to stand out and shoot for above average! And to recognize them for that! I also enjoy the simplicity of the colors for the students and the parents to understand. :)

Earth Day Fun!

Earth day has been one of my "babies" at my school for a few years now. Our school use to do a poster contest, but that changed the year only ONE student entered. I decided we needed to do something MORE!
We started a recycled art contest! This year will be our 4th annual contest!
Students use all recyclable materials to make art sculptures. The first two years the theme was wide open and all sculptures were judged based on beauty, creativity, and percentage of recyclable materials. This meant the students had to do some research to find out what can be recycled in our city!
Our PTO funded the prizes for the winners, and we made it so that everyone who participated got some small prize. Oriental Trading has lots of "Earth Day" prizes to choose from!
Check out the wiki I created to inform parents and students about the contest. It also has games and videos, along with last year's contest idea.
